The Project Self-Sufficiency Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-
profit foundation which supports Project Self-Sufficiency
(PS-S). PS-S, is a City of Huntington Beach Department of
Community Services, Human Service program which
assists low-income, single parents to
achieve economic independence from governmental
assistance.
The City of Huntington Beach staff members work to link
participants with Public and Community resources such
as housing subsidies, educational resources, job
training and a variety of other benefits.
The private sector, through the Project Self-Sufficiency
Foundation, is committed to raising funds to further the
mission of the PS-S program. Over 90% of funds raised
by the Project Self-Sufficiency Foundation go directly to
program participants in the form of child care assistance,
transportation assistance, tuition scholarships, job
training and other programs and services designed to
lighten the load for the PS-S families.
Project Self-Sufficiency began in 1985, when the city
participated in the U.S. Department of Housing and
Urban Development’s national Project Self-Sufficiency
Program. The Huntington Beach program has since
gained national attention as one of the most successful
and longest running programs in the
country. Currently, the City of Huntington Beach Project
Self-Sufficiency is the only remaining PS-S program left
out of the 150 programs originally formed in 1985.
